How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on Cardivaro starts with one question: will this equipment fit your training and your space? For a functional trainer, that means its footprint, cable setup, resistance and the exercises you plan to do.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the workout and the room

A large trainer may be a poor fit for a low-ceiling basement. A bench or dumbbell set may not suit the exercises or storage space you have.

We check dimensions, capacity, adjustment range, folded size and the space needed to use the equipment. For trainers, we also look at pulley positions, cable travel, resistance and attachment points.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the maker's listed specs: frame and stack weight, resistance ratio, bench angles, dumbbell weight range, band resistance, materials and what comes in the box.

We check whether attachments fit the machine, and note assembly needs, warranty terms and other limits the maker lists. Makers describe products in their own words, so we name the brand for each claim.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like pulleys that bind, unstable benches, hard-to-adjust weights, worn grips or missing hardware.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A compact trainer may suit a small room, while a heavier setup may better fit a dedicated gym.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.

We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are based on research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

Workout and setup information is general guidance. Follow the maker's instructions, and ask a qualified professional if you need help choosing equipment or exercising safely.
